A Gonzo journalist places themselves at the centre of their story. A Gonzo traveller places themselves at the centre of their journey through direct involvement at every level in their travel experience. That means starting out by curating and booking the trip. On the ground, the Gonzo traveller preferences communal style accommodation (a private room in a hostel) over luxury hotels, travels light, catches public transport rather than taking Ubers and taxis and seeks out spots like multicultural and gentrifying neighbourhoods rather than the more conventional tourist sites. Gonzo travel is unfiltered, minimalist, experiential and sustainable.
The tour group traveller is an observer. The Gonzo traveller is an active participant in every moment of their trip. If you go Gonzo, you’ll value independence, flexibility, self discovery and immersion.

A BIT ABOUT ME

I’m a qualified tour guide and educator based in Sydney, Australia. In my spare time, I’m a keen cyclist, walker and sometime vinyl DJ. I’ve visited in excess of 60 countries over the past 30 years. Europe has been my main focus, but I’ve travelled extensively in Asia and set foot on every continent with the exception of Antarctica. I travel on a budget, but not to save money. As a general rule, in life, I’m not fond of penny pinchers, I find them tedious. The most important aspect of budget travel is not saving money, but creating value from your travels.
